Competition is hot at this price point, but I think the Calibre de Cartier Diver, especially in blue, offers its own appeal that is going to be popular among both Cartier fans and also those looking for a change of pace from the standard options from Omega and Rolex. I have tried the current blue strap and it’s excellent comfy, sporty, and ideal for this sort of watch. The version of the rubber strap shown at SIHH (and in these photos) appears to have been replaced with a blue version of the strap shown in Ariel’s review linked to above. If this is your life, then this may be your watch.Īccepting the possibility that I have digressed, on wrist, the Calibre de Cartier Diver Blue feels special, which is the key element for a watch in this segment (that being, watches that have to battle the mighty Rolex Submariner). Steel dive watches are tools for the masses, while a gold diver (especially from a brand like Cartier) paints visions of the sun-soaked Amalfi coast, an ever darkening tan, and a teak decked vessel to carry you far away from steel concerns. While I don’t have the wrist to pull off a gold dive watch, I think I get the appeal and there is something wondrously nouveau-riche about the solid gold Calibre de Cartier Diver Blue on a blue rubber strap. While the two tone has a certain appeal, the full 18k pink gold version really rips the knob off. ![]() The blue is arguably an even stronger suit for the solid gold version. While the black version is certainly a classic look, I think the blue really suits the nautical feel of the Calibre de Cartier Diver’s aesthetic. With 27 jewels and a 4Hz rate, the 1904 MC is not especially fancy, but it is a capable movement that finds a fitting home in the Calibre de Cartier family.įocusing on the blue, I think it’s a strong addition to the lineup. Inside its nicely detailed case, we find Cartier’s 1904 MC movement, sporting double barrels that provide more consistent torque over the 48 hours of power reserve. Think of the difference between an old Wrangler and a new Grand Cherokee, or a Merc 280G vs a modern G65.Īs such, the Calibre de Cartier Diver Blue, while undeniably a luxury product, is water resistant to 300 meters, has a legit dive bezel, strong legibility, and a capable in-house automatic movement. What was once a tool then became popular for its strong versatility and was eventually co-opted by the luxury market. A very similar thing has happened to SUVs over the past twenty years. So, within the large market for casual dive watches there is a demand for higher-end products that retain some semblance of their toolish roots. While few dive watches actually see use as tools for scuba diving, many watch buyers desire a watch with the ancillary qualities of a dive watch (robust construction, good legibility, water resistance, and a casual masculine appeal). ![]() Dress divers are a strange evolution, a subspecies of the sport watch grown to bridge the gap between the traditional role of a dive watch as a tool and its more modern context as an object of luxury with adventurous intentions (especially within the confines of Cartier and its peers). At 11mm thick, the Calibre de Cartier Diver is a consummate dress diver, offering a more sporty interpretation of the Calibre de Cartier platform. With a 42mm case in steel or 18k pink gold, the new blue dial is matched by an equally blue, lumed ceramic bezel insert. Save for the coloring, the blue variant of the Calibre de Cartier diver is identical to the original black version of the Calibre de Cartier Diver that Ariel reviewed here. From steel to solid gold, the Cartier Calibre de Cartier Diver Blue wears the color well, adding a playful touch of personality to a brand often characterized by their stoic aesthetic. As with many of its peers, this simple color swap manages to impart this rather dressy Cartier diver with an appeal distinct from that of the original black-dialed version. Continuing the watch design trend of “more blue is better,” Cartier showed a blued version of their Calibre De Cartier Diver at SIHH earlier this year. ![]() It's great fun to use and easy to master, making it our top pick for the best free collage maker. Will run in 4K at 60fps on PS4, Xbox and PC.But without the love of Sonic to fuel me through it, the game felt very dull and repetitive, while being unreasonably slow. In general, I think if you were a big Sonic fan or someone that doesn’t want a particularly hard game, this wouldn’t be too bad of a choice. I liked this mode and appreciated the option, however, I don’t think it’s something you could really sink your teeth into unless you were a pretty avid completionist. This was a fun little add-on that I really appreciated.Īnother new feature was Rival Rush, where you can race against Metal Sonic in order to win rewards. You can also customise Sonic, borrowing the main attraction of Sonic Forces, changing his in-game gloves, shoes, boosts and aura. Some are better than others, with my personal favourite being the Cyan Wisps, but I did appreciate the variety and the fact you need late-game Wisps to complete earlier parts of the game. There are a total of eight Wisps in Colors, each giving you a unique ability to help traverse a level. With 45 story acts, there are very few I can remember as being unique in level design or gameplay, other than the few that heavily rely on the Wisps for help. I couldn’t tell you what happened in each world or what I actually accomplished after each level. The game also feels very samey throughout. Knowing there are no stakes, and the fact Tails can also return you to the exact spot you died – not even the checkpoint – meant I cared a lot less about learning the layout of the level or understanding the best way to get past an enemy. I understand not wanting to make players frustrated with a difficult level, but not even giving me the option to make the game harder made it far more boring. ![]() This makes rings pretty useless unless you’re interested in getting an S rank, and it means you will keep respawning at your last checkpoint until you win. One of the biggest issues I personally had with this game was the complete removal of lives and game overs. It never felt gratifying getting to the end of the level, which is something I’ve felt with previous games, like Sonic Mania. With my PS4 controller, however, Sonic was floaty and awkward to control. I remember the original actually feeling better to play on the Wii compared to the PS4, as the motion controls gave the gameplay a little more innovation. I was either watching Sonic run without participating, or trying to get him to jump over spikes.Īnd I could forgive the platforming if it was easier to control. The feeling of speed is missing, even when you boost it feels like you don’t ever get to go that fast, and there are some levels that even have Sonic automatically running forward in the intro for a ridiculous amount of time. There are a few sections that are undoubtedly fun, when you can rush forward and appreciate the interesting backgrounds, but a lot of the time you’re constantly stopping and navigating awkward platforms. As someone who remembers playing the original version of Sonic Colors over a decade ago, I can say that it feels about the same.įor a character renowned for his speed, it really feels like Sonic spend a lot of time platforming and waiting around in this game. Since the story is rarely why you pick up a Sonic game, you want the gameplay to really shine. Not very complicated, better for younger kids. However, Sonic Colors Ultimate did make me laugh out loud on occasion, with Eggman’s absurd park announcements a particular highlight. The script is tailored for a younger audience than myself, with tedious jokes about butts and farts running rampant. Tails is also here, which is a nostalgic throwback, but there isn’t much else happening in terms of characters or story, so the game was very dependent on gameplay to keep your attention. It becomes clear that Eggman is up to no good, as usual, this time concerning some little aliens, or Wisps, who he’s capturing and using in a nefarious plot to control the world. You play as Sonic, who’s visiting Dr Eggman’s Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park. Starting up Sonic Colors Ultimate, you don’t actually get much in terms of the story until you’ve completed a level or two. It doesn’t follow on from any other game. While Sonic fans and young children may be able to find joy here, I’m sad to say I don’t think this is a worthwhile game for anyone else – it’s not devoid of fun, but it’s hardly a decent Sonic game. This remake doesn’t really shake things up in terms of story or gameplay, but is pretty faithful to the original with a few added bits of content to keep things interesting. Sonic Colors Ultimate is a remake of the 2010 Wii game that drops you back in Eggman’s theme park of horrors with the task of saving the aliens he’s been capturing. Yet the discussion of more natural looking HSV color-wheels led me to look back at FastLED HSV to RGB and at their Rainbow HSV. I added both power-efficient (saw-tooth) and smoother looking (sine) wave implementation leveraging the spectrum HSV code. ![]() Reading up on HSV again on Instructables, Ontaelio also spoke to power efficiency through using wave forms and in to how they effected percieved color. Kasper also addressed dimming for luminance normalization. Looking at it, I found I could simplify it a little more by pulling common calculation up out of the case I then implemented that in Xtensa. I tried copying the logic of the AVR in fast_hsv2rgb, and then the C logic, both of which use opaque iterative pointer-swapping, but I decided to use a jump table, and then to move to simplify the whole thing.Īnd the simplest HSV to RGB code out there, I found, is Kasper Kamperman's, with a simple flow through and case at the end. Next I came to use fast_hsv2rgb from Vagrearg: Lots of interesting math and theory on spectrum HSV, with C implementations, and also AVR, which got me thinking of why not an Xtensa version. Initially I looked at FastLED but determined it too broad a library for my use, and it dictated that FastLED be at the center of whatever you were doing which was not what I wanted. ![]() I came to write this library after looking into options to do HSV-to-RGB conversion.

Put 5 litres of water into the bucket.Sterilise the bucket, spoon, lemon squeezer and grater (or potato peeler) using the sterilising powder by following the instructions on the pack.(The scent of chemicals will disappear once everything has dried). Our trick is to buy a batch of supermarket table water, using the water to make the champagne and decanting our brew into the empty plastic bottles. Plastic is a safer, more accessible option. If you want to use glass, you’ll need to get hold of champagne bottles which have heavyweight glass specially designed to withstand the pressure of the gas that builds up during fermentation, and use special corks and wire cages. Though plastic bottles are something that we all ought to be avoiding as a rule, we use them here for safety reasons. In the unlikely event that you find yourself with a half-drunk bottle that’s gone flat, just put it back in the fridge for a couple of days to restore its sparkle. If you don’t drink your champagne as soon as it’s ready, bear in mind that it will keep getting fizzier and you’ll need to ‘burp’ the bottles as time goes on (just open the caps every now and then to release any gas that has built up). The fizz in elderflower champagne is generated by active yeasts that will continue to work in the bottle for up to four months. This recipe makes 5 litres – but if you have a large enough bucket, you can make a larger batch simply by multiplying the quantities. A beautifully light, sparkling summer drink that’s easy to make and requires no specialist equipment. ![]()
